Why I hate the Snoo

ICYMI, I really hate The Snoo!

✨It’s a machine that anticipates your babies needs, so you don’t have a chance to trust your instincts

✨It is a tight, inescapable swaddle, which goes against safe sleep guidelines

✨It doesn’t leave space for biologically appropriate sleep-wake cycles

✨It’s financially prohibitive, and urges parents to spend money on a device, rather than on the parents’ and child’s well being⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

@alexapland shared a review with me and it says it all: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“They KNOW desperate parents will buy this at 2am in a panicked sleep deprived frenzy. I was one of those suckers. It promises to be an amazing tool to keep baby asleep. And the concept makes sense. But this just pushes the idea that your baby wakes up for no reason. It had me thinking my baby woke hourly for no reason when in fact he needed a diaper change, feeding, or just ME!? I got the SNOO set up, and did everything I possibly could to make this work for my baby. It didn’t. In fact it actually irritated my baby and woke him up pissed. Had I just been taught that my baby wakes up to need me and that’s fine – I would’ve never wasted my money on this. I ended up putting my baby beside me in a little bed bassinet, got some really good nighttime diapers, and fed him when he wanted to eat, and I saw improvements. My baby is not the kind of baby that sleeps through the night. Instead of trying to change him I just to meet his needs. The more I have focused on giving him what he needs, the more he has started sleeping and now we are down to waking up 2-3 times a night instead of 8. I am that person who has bought all the products, taken all the courses, and done everything I could to get a good night’s sleep for us and I just want everyone to know: don’t waste your money or your time – just focus on your baby. Don’t buy an overpriced piece of junk like the SNOO. It’s basically just a glorified baby swing with a straight jacket.”

I’m Cayla Solomon — a certified holistic sleep coach specialising in responsive, root-cause sleep support for babies, children, and adults. I work with families and individuals across Canada and worldwide, and I’ve spent years studying why the standard sleep training advice so often fails the people it’s supposed to help. My approach draws on sleep science, attachment research, and the conviction that understanding your body — or your child’s — is always the first step. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions, and I’m not afraid to say so.
