Dependence is the key to fostering independence

Nurturing your baby does not create bad habits.

Full Stop.

Nurturing your baby, responding to their needs, and allowing them to rest in your care creates dependency. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Dependency teaches your child that they can rely on you; that it is safe to grow, to make mistakes, and to learn from those mistakes without any repercussions on their relationship with you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Children shouldn’t “know better”. We need to teach them better by modelling behaviour, by showing them that they have the invitation to exist in our presence regardless of their needs or behaviours, and that we are there for them to support them when they need it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Satisfying your child’s attachment needs does not create bad habits. Allowing your child to depend on you will give them the confidence they need to foster independence as they grow 💕
