Sleep myths

Drop a ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ below if youโ€™re tired of being bombarded with sleep training myths

In all honesty, this audio is in jest and Iโ€™m not calling anyone names – but I do think all parents would be much better served if we collectively (and I donโ€™t mean those of us in the sleep industry, I mean as a society) did a better job of educating parents on biological norms as they relate to infant sleep.

Iโ€™m tired – on behalf of all new parents – of having to dispel these common, misleading and outdated myths:

There is no magic age when babies no longer need to eat at night
There is no such thing as teaching babies to โ€œself sootheโ€
Babies are not capable of manipulation
Parents are not capable of giving too much support, connection or love
Overtiredness is not the answer to every sleep problem
There is no magic schedule (forget the โ€œeat play sleepโ€ or โ€œ2-3-4โ€ routines)
Parents are in control of their babies biological functions, and can โ€œteachโ€ their child to sleep

There are absolutely things that can be done to improve sleep. This is true both in cases where there are extenuating circumstances creating the disturbances (think: oral ties, birth experience, nutrient deficiencies etc.), and when there are challenges with the schedule.

It is not necessary. It never was. And we need to stop telling parents it is the only way.

So if youโ€™re tired of being told your instincts are wrong, that you need to just let your baby find their way, or worse – that youโ€™re getting in the way of better sleep – youโ€™re in the right place. Drop a ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ if you agree or a ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ to say hi!

Iโ€™m Cayla Solomon โ€” a certified holistic sleep coach specialising in responsive, root-cause sleep support for babies, children, and adults. I work with families and individuals across Canada and worldwide, and Iโ€™ve spent years studying why the standard sleep training advice so often fails the people itโ€™s supposed to help. My approach draws on sleep science, attachment research, and the conviction that understanding your body โ€” or your childโ€™s โ€” is always the first step. I donโ€™t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions, and Iโ€™m not afraid to say so.
